11-Monumenta-Anish Kapoor: Leviathan at Grand Palais Paris,Video by Christophe Ecoffet
|
For Monumenta 2011 in Paris, Anish Kapoor created the truly monumental sculptural work Leviathan, filling the space of the Grand Palais’s grand glass-ceilinged Belle-Époque pavilion with a balloon-like structure—appearing from the outside like an inflatable “monster” as referenced in the work’s title, and from the inside, like a womb of “formless, primal matter.” In this video, the artist speaks about the intentions of the work, possible readings based on its title, its blood-red color, and its intimations of bodily space.http://www.vernissage.tv Kapoor created a space within the space of the Grand Palais. "Visitors will be invited to walk inside the work, to immerse themselves in color, and it will, I hope, be a contemplative and poetic experience" (Anish Kapoor) |
